오늘 내친김에 조금 중형어이긴 하지만
워낙 예쁘고 탐스런 녀석이라 올려봅니다.

넵, 이번 모델이 된 녀석은 엔젤중에 황제라 불리우는 알텀엔젤입니다.
The largest of all the angelfish species, the Altum Angelfish or
Orinoco Angelfish is a graceful disk shaped cichlid.
Being a bit timid, it can be frightened by shadows and fast movements.
This is especially true when first acquired, but once acclimated it is a friendly personable fish.
This is considered a community fish, but it is a cichlid and may not be as sociable with smaller fish.
They will school peacefully when they are young, but tend to pair off and become more territorial
when they are older.

야생 엔젤 개체중에 가장 덩치가 큰 녀석인데요.
알텀 엔젤피쉬 또는 오리노코 엔젤피쉬(Orinoco Angelfish)라 불리웁니다.
말그대로 베네주엘라의 오리노코강(Orinoco River)에서 잡힌 알텀을 오리노코 엔젤이라 부르는거죠. ^^
수조안에선 최대 15cm 정도일겁니다. 하지만...키로 따지면 30cm 이상이랍니다. (등지늘미 끝에서 항문 지느러미 끝까지)
야생에선 거의 5~60cm까지도 있다고 하더군요.
알텀 엔젤도 시클리드과인지라 소형어와 합사시에 그다지 사교적이지 못합니다.
작은 녀석들을 괴롭힌다는 말이죠. ^^
하지만 어렸을때부터 합사한 경우는 나름 평화롭게 잘 지내는데요...
그렇다곤 해도 쌍이 잡히고 산란시기가 다가오면 자기 구역을 지키기 위해 꽤나 날카로와진답니다.
↑ 실버 엔젤피쉬 (일반 엔젤 피쉬: Silver Angelfish - Pterophyllum scalare)라 불리는 녀석 같습니다.
알텀엔젤과 외양이 매우 흡사하답니다. 이 사진을 그대로해서 알텀이라고 소개하는 수족관이 있던데요...맞을까요?^^?
Though they are considered a community fish, Altum Angelfish may get territorial as they get older. They are reportedly a more peaceful fish than other angelfish species, but being in the cichlid family smaller fish may not do well with them. As they mature they will pair off, developing a strong nuclear family, and defend a territory in which to breed. A nice thing about the Altum Angelfish is that they don't burrow or disturb plants!
알텀들은 어느정도 사회적인 물고기입니다. 여러마리가 몰려있길 좋아하는거죠.
하지만 성장할수록 자기 영역을 가지길 원한답니다. 다른 엔젤보다는 훨씬 순하다고 알려져있습니다만,
그래도 소형어종과의 합사는 권하지않습니다. 쌍이잡히고 강력한 가족관계가 형성되면 산란을 위한
자신들의 영역을 의존하게 되는거죠.
사육환경은 디스커스와 비슷하다고 보심 좋을겁니다.
좋아하는 온도도 다른 열대어보다 조금은 높은 28~30도정도...
하지만..수조는 되도록 크면 좋습니다. 보통 길이는 3자 이상 어항이면 된다고 하는데요,
더 중요한건...사실 깊이 입니다.
수조 높이가 최소 두자(60cm) 이상 되는걸 권해 드립니다. 녀석들이 성장해서 멋진 핀을 보시기 위해선 말이죠.
쌍이 잡히고 산란할때도 디스커스와 마찬가지로 산란상에 산란할 자리를 깨끗이 입으로 청소한뒤 자리를 만들고 산란하니까요.
하지만...알텀은 결코 쉽게 번식을 할수있는 종은 아니랍니다.
지난 수년간 수조내에서의 번식은 불가능한것으로 알려졌을정도니까요.
The Altum Angelfish is a difficult fish to breed. For years it was considered impossible to breed, however more recently it has been successfully bred by some hobbyists but is still not commercially developed.
하지만 최근엔 열정적으로 물생활하시는 분들이 수조내 번식을 성공시키고 있답니다.
비록 아직은 상업적으로 할만큼은 아니더라도 말이죠.
These fish are egg layers.The female prefers to spawn on submerged roots and tree branches, laying up to 1000 eggs.

임컷 알텀은 유목이나 물속 가지에 약 1,000여개의 알을 낳는답니다.
시클리드과의 다른 물고기들처럼 부모들은 알을 지키고 치어를 보호하죠.
수조내의 성공적인 번식을 위해선 쌍 잡힌 알텀 한쌍만을 두는것이 좋습니다.
신방에 산란상을 세운후 산란환경을 만들어 놓으면 암,수 번갈아 알을 낳고 수정을 시키게 됩니다.
기간동안에 환수나 돌발적인 환경변화는 주지 않아야 합니다. 환경에 예민한 어미가 놀라지 않게 하기 위해서이죠.
처음으로 알을 갖게 된 쌍은 경험이 없어서인지 알이 수정도 잘 안되고, 낳고나서도 안절부절 하다가 알을 먹는것을 보게됩니다.
수정이후 부화까지 성공했다고 하더라도 날라다니던 치어들을 먹어버리는 수도 많다고 하더군요. ^^;;

Though very similar in appearance to the natural form of its close and well known relative, the common Angelfish Pterophyllum scalare, the Altum Angelfish are virtually all wild caught. They are delicate fish with a history of having a high mortality rate. They are moderately difficult to keep, but will feel most at home and comfortable in a warmer aquarium that has hardy plants placed around the inside perimeter. Provide some rocks and roots but keep an open area in the center for swimming.
알텀은 외관상 일반 엔젤 피쉬라 잘 알려져있는 Pterophyllum scalare(일반 엔젤-실버엔젤의 학명입니다 ^^;;)와 매우 흡사합니다만, 알텀은 사실상 모두 야생개체를 의미합니다. 꽤나 높은 치사율을 가진 민감한 물고기죠.
The Altum Angelfish can be rewarding to keep for aquarists that are observant and diligent in providing care. These fish are sensitive to changes in water chemistry and will deteriorate under poor water conditions. They are subject to infections as well as other diseases that ail all freshwater fish. Do water changes of 15 to 20% a week depending on bio load.
수조안의 수질이나, 질병 기생충등에 매우 약한 섬세한 녀석들입니다.
비싼데다...기르기도 만만치 않은 이유가 그런 이유입니다.
그래서.. 더더욱 많은 물생활 애호가들의 끊임없이 도전이 있는지도 모르죠.
